145TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FATHER OF
KONKNNI LITERATURE, SHENNOI GOEMBAB CELEBRATED
AT THOMAS STEPHENS KONKNNI KENDR, PORVORIM A day’s
seminar entitled, ‘Shennoi Goembab and his literature ’ was held at
Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr, Porvorim on October 08, 2022 from 10 am
to 1 pm. Three papers were presented on the
most exciting and inspiring works of Shennoi Goembab. The First Paper was presented by Dr. Kiran
Budkuley in which she shared her views and dwelt upon the main highlights
of ‘Ain Vellar ’ (At the Last
Moment) a letter of Shennoi Goembab during this last days of life. A call to
unify all Konknni people, irrespective of caste, religion, creed. She also
highlighted the love of Shennoi Goembab for konknni language and its culture. The Second Paper was a brief analysis of the dramas
of Shennoi Goembab. The paper was presented by Fr. Milton Rodrigues, sfx,
Assistant Professor of Fr. Agnel College, Pilar. These dramas are adaptations
of the original plays of French playwriter, Molier. He highlighted on
the creative scripts which brought in various elements of konknni person, his
culture, eating habits, and all that surrounds him through adaptation to our
culture. The Third Paper was on the Biographies of Abe
Faria and Ram Kamati written by Shennoi Goembab presented by Mr. Divakar
Gurav, lecturer at Ganapat College, Arambol. An inspiring model in the
person of Ram Kamati, who silently suffered without any fault. The emphasis was
to awaken our true selves and fight for justice making use of all the talents
and necessary gifts bestowed upon us. Like Abe Faria, we too are called to showcase
our talents and keep to our culture and identity. The Chairperson for the presentations was Fr.
Mousinho de Athaide. He made a beautiful remark saying that Shennoi Goembab
and many other konknni writers took the leadership single-handedly to fight the battle to preserve the konknni
language and its culture. He placed before us a challenge to move ahead
preserving our language and our culture. He beautifully highlighted the main
points of all the three talks and called upon the students to grow more and
more in love for the language and its culture .
The seminar was attended by the Konknni students of various
colleges and Goa University. , Fr. Jose Silveira SJ, the Director did
the honors of welcoming the gathering, whereas, Fr. Kelwin Monteiro SJ was
the compere for the seminar and Ms Swara Pednekar proposed the vote of thanks.
